Penguin PTO
  • What is the PTO?

If you are a caregiver of a student at Pittsfield, you are part of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Our primary objectives are to:

    • Promote open communication and assistance between teachers, parents, and students
    • Build relationships among Pittsfield families and staff
    • Raise money to support our students educational experiences

    What do we do?

    • Meet monthly to eat together, get a principal's update, and discuss how we can help our school
    • Communicate with other schools through the PTOC (Parent Teacher Organization Council)
    • Organize volunteers for school events - Scholastic Book Fair, Family Fun Nights, Science Olympiad, just to list a few!
    • Organize school fundraisers. The money raised through the PTO goes directly back to Pittsfield students. We fund many projects, but here are some of our favorites:
      • Giving teachers grant money to use in their classroom however they wish. We don't want teachers spending their own money in the classroom.
      • Paying for school field trips. As we try to create an equitable educational experience for all our students, it is important that every student can attend every field trip without the family burden of having to pay for it.
      • Snack closet. We fund a school wide snack closet. Some classrooms struggle to keep enough snacks on hand to keep bellies full during the day, so the PTO makes a monthly donation to fill in the gap.
